Garden City NY: Doubleday & Company, Inc, 1956. First Edition. Hardcover with dust jacket. Good+/Good+. Paul Galdone (dust jacket). 8vo. Pp. 248. Illustrated with a section of b&w photo reproductions on coated paper. Typography credited to Edward Gorey. Bound in ochre cloth, titles in yellow on the spine, yellow topstain: boards mildly damp-warped and -stained, leaf edges a trifle foxed. In the three color Galdone illustrated dust jacket unclipped: spine ends chipped, short closed tears. The lives of young artists in "Paris of the West" between 1890 and the 1906 Great Fire, including Isadora Duncan, David Warfield, David Belasco, Jack London, Ambrose Bierce, Frank Norris, Gertrude Atherton and Robert Aitken.

Jacket is now preserved in a removable clear archival sleeve.
