About This Item

London: John C. Nimmo, 1895. Book. Very Good. Hardcover. First UK Edition. 12mo. (vii) 351 pp. Pale green cloth with a small blue pictorial on the front panel; lettered in gilt on the spine; pale green endpapers; illustrated with 24 black and white photographic plates. All plates are present. Edge and corner wear with some minor discolouration on the boards; no interior markings; the front hinge is slightly loose, the rear hinge is tight; both gutters have begun to split; as issued, no dustjacket. This begins: Ornithology is well-nigh the humblest member in the fraternity of Natural Sciences. It has little or no recognition in school or college, and hitherto has excited comparatively little general interest. It is accounted a surprising thing when a person is found who can speak intelligently in regard to a dozen of the very commonest species of birds... The story is told month by month and finishes with an index..
