About This Item
New York: Simon & Schuster, 1971. First edition. Cloth. Fine/very good. 8vo. First edition of the author's second book. Winner of the Richard and Hinda Rosenthal Foundation Award from the American Academy of Arts and Letters for a novel of "considerable literary achievement". 220 pp. INSCRIBED BY THE AUTHOR TO THE ARTIST RAPHAEL SOYER "with great admiration and hopes of meeting again". Dated in Livingston, Montana in 1972 (just one year after publication). A fine clothbound copy in very good lightly spine-tanned dustwrapper with a small gutter nick, a couple of small stains at the rear spine fold and a couple of short, closed edge tears. A nice association and an early inscription from this author. Apprecitive blurbs from Edward Abbey and William Eastlake among others.
