The first edition of Alexander Somerville's entertaining autobiography about his early life in England, between 1811 and 1857. The first edition of this autobiography by Alexander Somerville, a British Radical journalist and soldier. Published two years after her and his wife emigrated to Canada. Somerville discusses his travels in Canada, life in the British army, and the punishment he received as a dragoon in the British army, which was that of being forced to ride an unruly horse. He received one hundred lashes when he got off and refused to remount.With a library bookplate to the front pastedown, and partially removed library bookplate to the rear pastedown. In the publisher's original cloth binding. Bumping to spine head and tail, with fading to back strip and board perimeters. Library bookplate to front and rear pastedown. Internally, firmly bound.
