Devotedly, Florence Brobeck- August 26, 1943", on the front endpaper. Straight and tightly bound, spine-end and top corner wear, tape remnants and soiling to endpapers, darkening to textblock top edge, owner's catalogue number "306" stickers to front board and same noted in pencil to front pastedown, Nancy Craig's personal name and address label above inscription. Later issue dustjacket, seventh printing stated, unclipped bearing original price, edge nicks, spine darkened, smudges to rear panel, sticker ghost to rear flap, still displays nicely in new Brodart sleeve. Florence Brobeck, the well-known cookbook author, women's editor of The New York Herald Tribune, one-time food columnist for The New York Times Magazine, associate editor of McCall's magazine, writing instructor at New York University's adult education program and contributor to Good Housekeeping, American magazine, Town and Country and the New Yorker presents an extensive collection of dishes and full meal plans for the American cook based on the European woman's favorite cooking utensil - the casserole. Nancy Craig was a well-known broadcaster of radio and television home service programs in the early 1940's and mid-50's including interviews with prominent people and tips and advice for the home, she later hosted the daily ''Women of Tomorrow'' programs on WABC-TV from 1951 to 1956. In 1947, she was named Foster Mother of the Year for her assistance to the Foster Parent Plan for War Children. Illustrated with a few black-&-white plates including a frontispiece of Hendrick Willem Van Loon's portrait of himself with his favorite casserole. Introduction by Hendrik Willem Van Loon. Index appended.
