About This Item

Tokyo: PowerShovel, Ltd, 2006. First edition. Softcover. Very good+ to fine condition. Quarto. Unpaginated. Original stiff black wraps with white lettering on cover and spine, in original stiff glossy white dustjacket with silver lettering on spine; housed in clear plastic slipcase with Japanese lettering and transparent barcode sticker attached.

Moriyama describes his photo books as open-ended sites, leaving it to the viewer to choses the way to encounter his books. Having published some one hundred and fifty books "Farewell Photography" ranks amongst his most influential publications. It is included in Andrew Roth's "The Book of 101 Books: Seminal Photographic Books of the Twentieth Century" and Parr/Badger's Photobook, Volume 1, pp. 298-299. The book was originally published in 1972 though all photos are reproduced here in the original size.

"Photography never reaches a state of completion. That is what makes it interesting-amazing. When I was young I made projects like Farewell Photography. It was all fiction. Although, for me at that time, it was a form of reality." (Moriyama in an interview with Ivan Vartanian, Aperture, 2020). Slipcase with some rubbing, else in fine condition.
