1948 Hermitage Press, Inc., Yellow cloth hardcover with light wear and age toned edges in an unclipped acceptable dust jacket with many taped tears and a few small missing pieces. 9" by 6". A scarce second printing of Freda De Knight's popular cookery book of African American recipes, considered the first of its kind. The second printing, published the same year as the first; this work is scarcely found prior to the third printing of 1970. Written by Freda De Knight, the first food editor of Ebony magazine. This work, considered the first important cookbook by an African-American for an African-American audience, was a best-seller, and pioneering for the working class. Through this work, De Knight reminds readers of the roots of Southern cookery and its multinational heritage. An excellent and scarce signed example of this important African-American cookery book. In the publisher's original full cloth binding with an unclipped dust wrapper. Externally generally smart; a little worn to the head and tail of the spine. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean with age toning to eps and foxing to book edges.
