The first rst American edition of Henrietta Emma Litchfield's famous biography and collection of Darwin family letters. Henrietta ("Etty") was Charles and Emma Darwin's fourth child.

This work contains a large number of letters from
Charles, as well as from other family members, and has been an invaluable source of information about Darwin's family and daily life and thoughts. It was at first privately printed and circulated among family and friends. This is the first published edition.
