Single leaf, plate size: 400 x 300mm [15.75 x 11.8 inches], paper size: 455 x 340mm [17.9 x 13.4 inches]. Condition: a very good impression with bright coloring, with little darkening of paper. Outside of the impression there are generous margins that were in contact with an acidic matte. These margins are darkened by the acid of the matte board but are still supple. Bluish-gray weave patterned cloth hardcover with decorated front; tied with ribbons at spine; this is the kind of binding without a spine; 103 pages; illustrated with photographs in different monotone colors; no date but charts of rainfall etc. show through 1906 at the latest. Very good minus condition: slight toning and foxing; pencil ownership inscription dated 1910; the ribbon that tied the spine is decayed and partly missing..

Signed by Laws.John Keeble in his A Tribute to B G Laws we learn Laws was born on February 6, 1861 in Barnsbury, London and died on September 21, 1931 in London, also composed problems under the noms de plume, Handley Roads (while living on Hanley Road); S. Green (while living at Stroud Green); N.R.S (the final initials of his three names. Benjamin Glover Laws); C. Hill (Crouch Hill); I. S. Lington (Islington); C. Horn (Hornsey). Keeble wrote that, "Mr. Laws started his problematic career in a column edited by F. C. Collins in Brief. . . In the issue of June 7th, 1878, Mr. Laws is announced as having sent four problems to the Chess editor, who acknowledged them, in reply to correspondent, as follows: - "We have much pleasure in inserting your two-move position. The 10th anniversary is traditionally the tin anniversary, which would be observed by a present of a tin bank containing railroad, government, or other bonds. Instead, in this case, it contained the poem written, presumably by Wistar Morris, to celebrate their anniversary, as well as a shorter poem he had written 10 years earlier to welcome her to Green Hill Farm.
