Vintage Set of 4 E. P. Roe works. Includes: "He Fell in Love with His Wife" (1886); "The Earth Trembled" (1892); "Near to Nature's Heart" (1876), and "Miss Lou" (1888). Books are similarly bound to use as a set. In good condition overall. SLSetof4

It's not ofter that you find two original volumes published / printed in 1726. Overall, these titles are in V Good condition and 100% legible ( albeit with Olde English spelling ) The titles are leather bound (spines and corners) with printed board covers.
A previous owner has pasted additional pages at the start of Volume 1 and pasted various newspaper clippings and hand written texts relevant to the themes of Mr Toland dated through the 1800's further enhancing the value of the set.
John Toland (30 November 1670 – 11 March 1722) was an Irish rationalist philosopher and freethinker, and occasional satirist, who wrote numerous books and pamphlets on political philosophy and philosophy of religion. Born in Ireland, he was educated at the universities of Glasgow, Edinburgh, Leiden and and was influenced by the philosophy of John Locke.

The text is illustrated with Forty-One (41) illustrations of various sizes by J. R. Weguelin. First published in 1842, this QUITE SCARCE JACKETED volume presents great Roman tales here retold by Thomas Babington Macaulay (also known as Lord Macaulay). In four of these, Macaulay recounts in poetic form four heroic episodes from early Roman lore with strong dramatic and tragic themes. Macaulay also included two poems inspired by more recent history: Ivry and The Armada. The narrative poems, or lays, by Thomas Babington Macaulay, are titled "Horatius" [which describes how Publius Horatius and two companions, Spurius Lartius and Titus Herminius, hold the Sublician bridge, the only span crossing the Tiber at Rome, against the Etruscan army of Lars Porsena, King of Clusium, each of them willing to die in order to prevent the enemy from crossing the bridge, and sacking the otherwise ill-defended city.] "The Battle of Lake Regillus" [which celebrates the Roman victory over the Latin League at the Battle of… Read More
