Part of the table of contents is missing (it appears the book was bound without them, not that they were removed) but title and half-title are present and in their correct positions. Large portions of the paper spine missing, but title is complete. Scattered light internal foxing. New Howes P- 446. First volume of "The first popular history of the war from the Confederate point of view. Pollard's works are seriously marred by venomous anti--Davis feeling and bitter anti-Northern prejudice." --Nevins II, page 175. 042407C

Richmond, 1862. 403pp. Half title. Original printed glossy orange wrappers. Chipped at spine ends, edgeworn, slightly soiled, contemporary gift inscription on front wrapper. Scattered foxing. Good. In a folding cloth box, morocco label. A variant issue of the "corrected and improved edition," published the same year as the first. Pollard's popular history of the first year of the Civil War, told from the Southern perspective, went through several printings, north and south.
