UK: Hodder and Stoughton, 1951. First Edition Thus . Cloth. Very Good +/Very Good. 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall. Eileen Soper. 1st Edition Thus 4th Imp 1951. This is the first publication of an existing Famous Five title with the new wrapper design by Eileen Soper. The old white spine that was used on the first seven books was replaced with this new wrapper design in 1951. All future new publications of the remaining books in the five series were issued in this new design. These editions are very elusive and seldom appear especially in nice condition. Quite a few collectors prefer the later wrapper design to the old white spine because once the complete run of 21 books is collected they all match identically and look smashing on the shelf. The book is very good+ and bright. Contents good. The wrapper is very good with slightly rubbed, nicked and creased to edges. Minuscule loss to spine top.
