London: Whittaker & Co. / George Bell & Sons, 1885. First Edition. Cloth. Good/No Jacket. Hardcover/ no DJ; Good++ to VG. Assume First (only?) Edition. This is NOT a modern reprint; c. 1885 w/ no note of further printings; 231 pgs. + 14 pgs. adverts. + 7 fold-out plates/ diagrams at back; 7.5 x 5.5"". Navy blue cloth binding tight & square; minor rubbing, trace of soil, convex bow to covers, 1/4"" corner bumps at top of each cover. Gold gilt vignette on front & all gold spine lettering crisp & intact. No fray or spine discolor. Text block tight to binding; narrow spine gap prior to title page (not really a split- minor). Neatly penned sm. owner name, dated Dec. 25, '88 w/ ""Univ. of Pa"" in top corner of title page- assume 1888- in fountain pen & looks old. Text is tight, clean, unmarked w/ v. light toning. All plates intact & complete- bit of edge wear, but no tears. NOT ex library. Handsome, well preserved copy- displays well.
