About This Item

The Detective Book Club produced volumes of three crime novels from 1942 to 1999. Originally monthly, near the end they dwindled down to just a few per year. Many famous detective and crime novelists had their early works featured in DBC editions. Often, books were published in DBC editions before, or at the same time as they were published in mass market form. A little about our authors:

Robert L. Fish: A writer of 34 mystery novels, including four series mysteries. The longest series was the Captain Jose Da Silva mysteries of ten books. Most of his non-series novels were written under the pen name Robert L. Pike. Fish died in 1981. This is the third of three in his Carruthers series.

E. X. Ferrars: During her career, Ferrars published over 70 novels, mostly as stand-alone novels. Her longest series were the Virginia Freer and Andrew Basnett series, each with eight volumes. This is one of her stand alone novels.

Whit Masterson: This is one of four pen names for the writing team of Bill Miller and Robert Wade. Almost 20 books were produced by the team prior to Miller's death in 1961. Wade continued to write under these pen names until the late 1970s, resulting in a total of over 30 novels. Wade passed away in 2012. This is their last novel under the Masterson pen name.
