"When the west wind blows, I see the moon-lances gleam, Where the host of Faerie flows athwart the Hills of Dream. And a strange song I have heard by a shadowy stream, and the singing of a snow-white bird on the Hills of Dream."
This is a mystical collection of Victorian-era writings that I would call... "hauntingly beautiful." While some works are incredibly beautiful and hopeful, I must send a word to the wise and inform you that some are VERY dark, but I think this is what makes this such an incredible compendium; its words are brutally honest and magnificently written. This book is in such beautiful condition it looks like it's been in a time capsule for over 120 years; it is truly exceptionally well preserved. The rough cut page ends only add to the ambiance of this mysterious collection of victorian literature. There is no other book like this one and there will never be. Limited to only 925 ever made, and this is one of the last of them.
William Sharp (12 September 1855 – 12 December 1905) was a Scottish writer of poetry and literary biography in particular, who from 1893 wrote also as Fiona Macleod, a pseudonym kept almost secret during his lifetime.[1] He was also an editor of the poetry of Ossian, Walter Scott, Matthew Arnold, Algernon Charles Swinburne, and Eugene Lee-Hamilton.
Biography
Sharp was born in Paisley and educated at Glasgow Academy and the University of Glasgow, which he attended from 1871–1872 without completing a degree. In 1872 he contracted typhoid. During 1874–5, he worked in a Glasgow law office. His health broke down in 1876, and he was sent on a voyage to Australia. In 1878 he took a position in a bank in London.
