New York, NY, USA: Harper & Brothers Publishers, 1902. 1st Edition 1st Impression. Hardcover. Very Good. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. Complete in five volumes. First edition, first printing. xxiv, 348pp; xx, 370pp; xiv, 346pp; xvi, 344pp; x, 348pp. Each volume with a tissue-guarded frontispiece and further plate illustrations and drawings in text. Uniformly bound in blue cloth-covered boards with gilt lettering on spine. Top edge gilt. Title page printed in red and black. 8vo. A large and heavy set which will require an additional charge for overseas delivery. Cloth has some mottled markings, gently rounded at corners and spine ends, occasional mild scuffing. Text block edges a little toned. Spine cloths slightly sunned. Small cracks in hinges of volume II. Some pencil annotations on rear pastedown of volume one, cloth scuffed on spine. Volume five has a short tear in cloth at spine head, front hinge partially cracked. Volume three moderately rubbed at spine head, with small indentation in cloth on spine. A history of the American People, written and published before the author became President of the United States. Begun as a series of articles written for Harper's magazine, this history was controversial for apologetic position towards the activities of the Ku Klux Klan.
