Dublin: Printed for Messrs. Whitestone, Williams, Colles, [et al.], 1779. Hardcover. Very Good. First edition. Contemporary full polished calf, morocco spine label. Octavo. [4], 536pp. (with the page numbers 143-144 repeated). A handsome copy of the pirated Dublin edition (which appeared before the London edition), with an early small owner's signature on the title page, and an embossed color heraldic bookplate of "Charles Oliver Fairbank, Petrolia, Ontario," tipped-in on the front free endpaper underneath the signature of Robert T.R. Fairbank. The Fairbank family founded Fairbank Oil (still in operation) in 1861. Charles Oliver, a physician and World War I military officer, took over the firm in 1912. The front joint is cracked, moderate wear to the spine and board edges, else a very good bright copy. *ESTC* T116665.
