In a half calf prize binding, with the gilt motif of King Edward VI Grammar School, Birmingham, to the front cover. The fifth edition. First published in 1889. Biography of Thomas Wentworth, 1st Earl of Stafford, English statesman and major figure in the period leading up to the English Civil War. He was a supporter of King Charles I and was condemned to death by the Parliament in 1641. A fascinating biography written by H. D. Traill, published in the 'English Men of Action' series.Illustrated with a frontispiece of Lord Strafford. Collated, complete. With the bookplate of Josceline Grove and the ink inscription of A. C. Tate dated 1917. In a half calf prize binding with cloth to the boards. Externally, sound, with rubbing to the joints and a crack to the head of the front joint. Slight fading to the extremities. Front hinge is strained. Bookplate to the verso of the front endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean, with light spotting to the end pages and an ink inscription to the first blank. Good

Based in the literary city of Bath, our offices are housed in the Eastern Dispensary. Built in 1845, the building originally existed as a charitable institution providing medical care. The building now houses our collection of over twenty thousand books and has five full time members of staff.
