About This Item
St. Catherines: Vanwell Publishing Limited [1-55125-024-1] 1996. (Small 4to) 206pp. Fine in fine dust jacket. Maps, tables, photographs, notes, bibliography. "South Africa was made up of two British colonies, Capy Colony and Natal, and two Boer republics, the Orange Free State (OFS) and the Transvaal. A number of contemporary works described the background to the war in detail. Most, with the exception of the Transvaal Outlook, were pro-British or at best, barely neutral. A number took extreme positions and one went so far as to suggest, in pseudo-Darwinism, that the Boers were regressing into apes. A confrontation probably was inevitable" - from the first Chapter. Time Period 1899-1902. Locale: South Africa. (Military--Canada, Boer War, British Colonies, Colonial Wars, Military--Canada).
