In the Boys' Own Favourite Library, EARLY REPRINT (1882) dated from publisher's catalogue code, (the code in the 1st issue of this edition is dated 10.81), 8vo, dark green cloth, black and yellow illustration of boy reading in a tree to upper cover and spine, title and author on gilt panel on upper cover, title on 3 gilt panels on spine, author gilt on spine, blind rules to lower cover, grey floral endpapers, pages: (4), 1-374, + 32. 4 black and white plates by J.B. Zwecker. A touch of rubbing to tail of spine, hinges and 3 corners, yellow colour on upper cover rather dull, gilt bright, tiny pale spot on lower cover, front inner paper hinge partly cracked, early bookseller's tiny label on front pastedown, no inscriptions, tissue to frontispiece foxed resulting in pale foxing to frontispiece and title page, occasional pale brown margin marks, small very pale brown mark to 4 text pages due to pressed leaves, no loss of text, tip of 1 lower corner torn off, no loss, binding firm and tight. A very good copy of a scarce early edition. Newbolt 4.3. Our book, plate 33 far left, is identical to the 1881 first edition in the Boys' Own Favourite Library except that ours has a catalogue dated exactly 1 year later.
