From "Bohn's Illustrated Library". Complete with large Fold-Out Map by Lowry, 35" x 20", at the back. Title page dated 1854. Former Editions of this title were published as "London and it's vicinity exhibited" and "A new survey of London". Frontis. illus. "The Great Conservatory and Grounds at Kew". Very detailed and interesting work, now a Local History. Well illustrated with many Architectural Drawings. Other illustrations include the Times vertical printing press. Intersting section on Observatories (pages 630-697) has illustrations of the instruments and the buildings and includes the Radcliffe Observatory, Oxford. Also a section on the Thames Tunnel with technical Drawings. Rebound in Red cloth with dull gilt title on spine. Fore edge of pages up to title page a little ragged at edge. Map has some closed tears along paper folds. repaired from the back, several very small areas of loss to paper along other folds and a triangular piece missing from where map was attached to book (see photo). Pages and Plates in very good condition only an occasional spot of foxing. No inscriptions. Very small, light penciled notes on half-titl page, no other inscriptions.
