Author Note: Elizabeth Barrett Browning was an English poet of the Romantic Movement. During the Victorian era, she was very popular in Britain and the United States during her lifetime. Elizabeth wrote prolifically in the early 1840s, producing poetry, translation and prose. Her volume Poems (1844) brought her great success. Her prolific output made her a rival to Tennyson and candidate for poet laureate on the death of Wordsworth. Elizabeth's work had a major influence on prominent writers of the day, including the American poets Edgar Allan Poe and Emily Dickinson. She is best known for her 'Sonnets from the Portuguese' and 'Aurora Leigh', as well as the love story between her and fellow poet Robert Browning.
