Victor Gollancz Ltd, 1963. Hardcover. Acceptable. 1963. Re-Issued. 288 pages. No dust jacket. Red cloth with gilt lettering. Pages remain bright and clear with minimal tanning and foxing. Cracking to gutters, with exposed netting. Front hinge cracked with exposed netting. Binding remains firm. Pen inscription to half title page. Boards have moderate edge-wear with bumping to corners and rubbing to surfaces. Gilt lettering is slightly dulled.
Synopsis
The Purple Cloud is a "last man" novel by the British writer M. P. Shiel. It was published in 1901. H. P. Lovecraft later praised the novel as exemplary weird fiction, "delivered with a skill and artistry falling little short of actual majesty. " Frank Belknap Long deemed it "the most unutterably terrible book ever written".
