New York: Winchester Press, 1970. Hardcover. Near fine. Signed, limited edition (#449/750). Folio (40 cm), pp. 63, plus portfolio with 30 color plates painted by the author. Foreword by Arnold Gingrich. In cardboard slipcase, with marbled boards, cloth spine. Slipcase has a nick, some bumping and light wear, plate #1 has faint tanning along bottom edge. Otherwise, monograph and plates are in immaculate condition. [Bruns, S84]An architect by trade and conservationist by nature, Schwiebert was a founding member of Trout Unlimited, the Federation of Fly Fishers, and Theodore Gordon Flyfishers. He served on a number of scientific advisory boards, including for the Nature Conservancy. Salmon of the World was his second book, and in the introduction he reviews the literature on various salmon species going back to 15th century England. The text refers to each species featured in the plates, with a discussion of natural history, habitat, life cycle, feeding habits, and more.
