About This Item

US: Random House, 1953. First Edition. Hardcover. Good/Fair. Signed with a gift inscription and original illustration on the blank side of the first free end paper. First Edition, First Printing with the original dust jacket. The book was originally gifted to a young woman on her 12th birthday by her Aunt and Uncle in 1953. They regularly attended cocktail parties with Theodor Geisel. Geisel inscribed the book, "To _, with Best Wishes - Dr. Seuss" and then drew - what may possibly be - a cartoon version of himself, complete with bowtie, glasses (?) and beard. On the last blank page is an inscription, "To Linda - Happy Birthday from Uncle Mike and Aunt Emily. 29 August, 1953 - La Jolla, Calif". The boards are bright with faint soiling. Interior binding is tight, however, the spine is almost detached, having separated from the front board. Ends of spine are chipped, edges and corners are rubbed, corners are bumped. The book interior shows evidence of having been well-loved with scattered soiling and smudging, occasional creasing, page edge toning, and faint streaking on a few pages where liquid was possibly spilled and wiped up. Foxing and toning to endpapers. Owner's childhood bookplate inside front cover. The dust jacket is rubbed, chipped, soiled, creased and scuffed with a few large closed tears, including a 4" closed tear on the front cover. Dust jacket is covered in a protective mylar jacket. Additional pictures upon request.

Synopsis

“When it comes to scrambling eggs, Peter T. Hooper needs something super special for his super-dee-dooper dish! And only the most interesting and exciting eggs from around the world will do... Peter T. Hooper needs an extraordinary list of eggs for his special omlette...The list of ingredients includes eggs of the Stroodel, whose sort of a stork but with fur like a poodle, and of the moth-watching Sneth - a bird who’s so big she scares people to death! Follow him on his zany journey in this Dr. Seuss classic. As part of a major rebrand programme, HarperCollins is relaunching Dr. Seuss’s bestselling books, including such perennial favourites as The Cat in the Hat, Green Eggs and Ham and Fox in Socks. In response to consumer demand, the bright new cover designs incorporate much needed guidance on reading levels, with the standard paperbacks divided into three reading strands - Blue Back Books for parents to share with young children, Green Back Books for budding readers to tackle on their own, and Yellow Back Books for older, more fluent readers to enjoy. Scrambled Eggs Super! belongs to the Yellow Back Books range” (from publisher). As of March 2, 2021: “Dr. Seuss Enterprises, working with a panel of experts, including educators, reviewed our catalog of titles and made the decision last year to cease publication and licensing of the following titles: And to Think That I Saw It on Mulberry Street, If I Ran the Zoo, McElligot’s Pool, On Beyond Zebra!, Scrambled Eggs Super!, and The Cat’s Quizzer. These books portray people in ways that are hurtful and wrong.”
