The rich aristocratic English and fiercely out of place, is on its way up the Missouri River to see the American West as it begins to open up. Accompanied by a large and varied collection of retainers, Lord and Lady Berrybendeer have abandoned their palatial home in England to explore the frontier and to broaden the horizones of their children, who include Tasmin, a budding lyoung woman of grit, beauty, and determination, her vivacious and difficult sister, and her brother.A wonderfully engaging family confronting every bigger-than-life peersonality of the frontier, from the painter George Catlin to Indian chiefs, beaver trappers, mountain men, and European aristocrats and adventdurers, as they make their way up the great river, surviving attacks, discomfort, savage weather and natural disaster. The four novels are set on or beside the four great rivers along which the Berrybenders travel, the Missouri, the Yellowstone, the Rio Grande, and the Brazos.

Synopsis

The Berrybender Narratives, Book #1 This humorous and dramatic tale begin in 1830, as the Berrybender family, an affluent, British clan, travels up the Missouri river to experience the great American west. Indian raids, buffalo stampedes, chaotic encounters with pioneers, and a preacher called the "Sin Killer" give them more than they bargained for in their journey, and might cost them their daughter.
