Good: Ex-library with stickers on storage sleeve (not on book) and markings on title page, outermost pages lightly rubbed and tanned, foxing on edges, inner pages fairly bright.

With the ownership notation "Henry Owen's Bot. at London in 1811" in pencil and ink on the front paste-down end-paper and copious marginal notes in pencil in the same hand, with another leaf of notes in ink and pencil loosely inserted. Arscott (1676 - 1737) published parts one and two of this work in 1730 - 1731, and Benjamin Franklin printed both parts in Philadelphia in 1731 and 1732. Part 3 was first published in 1734, but this is the first appearance of all three parts in one volume. Part 2 comments extensively on Matthew Tindal's Christianity as Old as the Creation (1730). Sabin 91342 notes that this title was originally anonymously published in London in 1770 as the work of a recently deceased literary genius, widely thought to be Laurence Sterne, but later found out to be a literary hoax and the handiwork of Robert Griffith. ; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 227 pages .

The Spectator was a two or three page paper written by Addison and Steele that was published from 1711-1712 in London, England. Eight bound volumes of The Spectator were published in later runs, each volume containing about 200 daily editions.Boards are rubbed, scuffed and soiled and most of the gilt spine titles and red band backgrounds have faded. Corners are bumped. Volume two's rear board and volume eight's front board have seperated from the spine but have a very clean break and could be reattached with some basic rebinding. Raised spine ribs. Endpapers and title pages show minor browning with age, but all other pages are clean and bright for their age. Indexes at the rear of the texts.
