Circa 1875 edition of popular captivity narrative. Nelson & Phillips, New York. Spencer was 11 when captured in 1792. Brown blindstamped cloth, gilt title on spine. Condition is Very Good: Recased using original boards sometime in last 40 years. Modern endpapers. No interior writing, occasional foxing, some smudges, old corner folds. Small hole pp.13/14 affecting a few letters. Binding is sound. 160 pages with 4 plates and 4 engravings embedded in text all included in pagination. Contents bound at end as usual with this book. The plates and engravings are same topics and locations as the 1842 edition but are by a different engraver. True first edition is 1835 in either New York or Pennsylvania. Fourteen volumes in original hardcovers. Series 1: volumes 4, 5, 6, 8, 10, 11, 12, 15, 20, 21, 22, 23, 25, 26. 1896-1914. Generally condition runs from Good to Very Good plus. These are heavy volumes that are prone to binding failures when handled improperly. Some of these volumes are sound, some strengthened with new endpapers, some where binding is starting. None have failed bindings. The earlier volumes show more general wear to the boards than later volumes. I have prepared a more complete condition report on each volume so feel free to inquire. Rare hardcover 1st edition. Cover has some wear and water marks on the edge. Some shelf wear & corners bumped. Some light tanning. Nice, tight binding. Good for its age. Fictional story of Wannaseska, the Cherokee prophet set during the time the State of Georgia (white settlers) were about to confiscate Cherokee Lands in N. Georgia. The prophet is first hand eye witness and victim to the outrages. Story ends with the Trail, of Tears when the Cherokees agreed to move to Indian Territory in Oklahoma.

This copy is graded just Fair because only the spine of the wrapper is still here, i.e. both the front and back wrapper are missing.
