This volume from "Reports of Explorations and Surveys" covers the routes through California, particularly those from San Francisco to Los Angeles. Note the impressive collection of illustrations – landscape views, churches, fossils and plants, Indian tribes, and geological plans.

The book itself is bright, crisp and flawless. The price-clipped dustwrapper, which is lightly worn and chipped at extremities, is without the usual sunning of the red spine. Rare. NOTE: The entire lower panel (rear cover) of the dustwrapper is an advertisement for Percy Cerutty's book Athletics: How To Become a Champion. In making a Papier Croisé, the final step required that the paper be lifted up and carefully moved while still wet. This caused the characteristic knotting in the design.
