About This Item

First edition. First printing. The first edition in hardcover and in the English language, published almost immediately following the Bompiani release in softcover. Inscribed by the author on the title page: A Tom / affettuosamente / Umberto. Light scratching to the back board, but otherwise a near fine copy. The dust jacket very good only with general wear and tear. An early milestone in Eco s career, which would lead to his recognition as an authority - and eventually as a lasting influence - in the study of semiotics. Very scarce (if ever seen) signed or inscribed.
