Book #18 of 23 in the original series published 1948-1966 in the popular YA boys' series featuring freshman sports hero, Chip Hilton, & his understanding coach, Hank Rockwell, both based on the author's real life & experiences. Reissued in the late 1990s, these originals are highly collectible. A FIRST EDITION, First Printing from 1960 (listing to self in front matter & back DJ, self-summary on front flap), this hardcover 12mo (5" x 7.5") has brown tweed cloth-covered boards stamped with picture of football helmet to front in black & black lettering to spine with spine symbol. Condition is Near Fine: exceptionally clean & bright, binding strong & straight, hinges intact, pages creamy white & completely unmarked. Just a hint of rubbing to extremities & modest pushing to lower spine. The unclipped DJ is Good+, downgraded due to shallow but pervasive rubbing, creasing, & chipping; small area of paper transfer to lower back inner corner.
