About This Item

London: R Ackermann A very good copy in 2 volumes in contemporary half morocco bindings with 26 hand coloured plates. Undated but 1824. The bindings have gilt compartments with titles and volume numbers in gilt and gilt designs in the top and bottom compartments. Boards are marbled. The bindings are bright and clean with some scuffing to surfaces, including spine ends, and wear at the corners. Page edges lightly speckled. Both volumes have 2 bookplates: Vol I has a crown and entwined initials to the front pastedown, and an upside down armorial bookplate to the rear free endpaper with the motto 'aquila non capit muscas' and the names Michael and Dawn; Vol II has both these bookplates at the front endpapers. Contents: Vol I: frontispiece; title; list of titles printed (this title is not included); preface; contents and plate list; text 291 pp with 13 plates. Vol II: frontispiece; title; text 289 pp with 11 plates. Contents generally in very good clean condition. There is some offsetting from the plates and some spotting/toning to margins - particularly the top margin. The final text page in Vol I is partly attached to the rear free endpaper at its base and the endpaper has lost a small portion of the top edge at the corner.

About E C Books

E C Books is a small online bookselling business, specialising in pre 20th century works:natural history, science, history, and travel, aiming for rarer and more unusual books. Our largest stock area is Natural History, where we have a good range of books from the 1700-1800's, many finely illustrated. Other areas include children's books, particularly late 1800's-early 1900's - again illustrated; and literature pre 1900.When you order books from us we ensure that they are properly packed to protect condition, and we always use recorded or 'signed for' postal services for more secure delivery. Please note that we have recently moved to the beautiful Orkney Islands, where we intend to open a bookshop over the next year. Because of our location we cannot guarantee 'next day' delivery but we will get your purchase to you as quickly and safely as we can. Please note that the buyer is responsible for the payment of any tax or duty on import.
