Rare books from Marianne Matthews

Rare softcover book with no writing or marks published by Africa Evangelical Fellowship (formerly the S. A. G. M. mission) in good condition overall. Circa 1960. All pages and text clean and intact. The outside cover has some wear and discoloration, but interior of book has clean white pages. Very good binding. There is a foreword and an appendix at front and back with dates and data. Contents include 20 chapters about missionary calling and life in Africa, primarily Angola and Mozambique. Obtained in Africa in the 1980's from a British missionary with same mission that published this book.

Rare original poetry book with cloth covered boards, copyright 1880 by J. W. Shoemaker & Co. This edition published in 1906 by the Penn Publishing company, Philadelphia. From the estate of my great-great grandfather.Includes many unique poems and recitations such as "To a skull", "Uncle Daniel's Introduction to a Mississippi Steamer", "The Leak in the Dyke", etc. More well-known poetry includes "Song of Birds", "Old Ironsides", and "Bannock Burn" by Robbie Burns. Light rubbing and bumps to outside spine edges. Back cover and interior cloth covered board has a stain at top. Original owner's name and address from 1908, but no other writing or marks. First 2 pages have a stain at top, but text of 192 pages of poetry and recitations is totally clean with light tanning of pages.

Very Rare First edition 1928 hardcover by a New Zealand authoress, Jean Devanny. She was a pioneer writer and the author of "The Butcher Shop". The spine of the jacket states this book is "a powerful study of a woman's personality in a remote New Zealand bush town". The text has no writing and is in good condition with only lightly faded pages. The jacket is worn with a few tears and crinkles plus rubbing, but still colorful. It is adhering to the cloth covered boards and there is foxing to boards. Hinges are intact. Good binding.

Rare first edition illustrated 1906 hardcover with green cloth covered boards published by Thomas Y. Crowell & Company. Includes an introduction by Annie Russell Marble. Frontispiece illustration of Mt. Katahdin. Text has no writing, tears, or missing pages. Original owner's name and address on inside first page. Hinges are cracked but no loose pages. Mild staining to cloth covered boards and some fraying at spine and corner edges of cover. First edition, so issued without a dust jacket.

Rare 12 page paperback booklet/pamphlet published by Theological Students Fellowship Affiliated to the Universities and Colleges Christian Fellowship in Leicester England in the 1970's. The author is Dr. Kenneth A. Kitchen, Reader in Egyptian & Coptic in the School of Archaeology & Oriental Studies at the University of Liverpool. He reviews Professor Bright's "History of Israel" which was extensively revised in 1972. Kenneth Kitchen states that John Bright's work is the standard of its kind and far outstrips in quality, balance, and sanity other works in the field. There are 6 parts to the review.Published in 1973 or later. There is not an exact date. No writing or marks in text. A few light bends. Price stickers on back paperback cover.
