n.p.[New York]: [privately printed], 1952. 1st edition. Hardcover. Very Good/No Jacket (as issued). VG. 8vo, 68pp, sewn binding in quarter-cloth card covers with cover label. Lowest-numbered copy (1 of 280, initialed by the author) of this rare and seminal self-published proto-Beat work by poet and multimedia artist Gerd Stern, with themes presaging the mystic, erotic and entheogenic revolutions to come. Attractively illustrated with Steigian abstractions by Ivan Majdrakoff and intimately printed from hand-lettering. This totemic example, copy 1, was retained in the author's collection for 70 years and shows a bit of edgewear to covers, typical buckling and a closed tear to cover label, and minor interior stainingthe residua of a life on the frontiers of being.
