The unclipped jacket retains the $2.00 price and has minor wear to the extremities. The rear panel has one small chip and a couple of short, closed tears. About near fine overall. A nice example of a hard to find Freeman title.

Jacket has a little bit of crimping at the top of the front panel at the spine fold, else fine. Inscribed to the author Ron Hansen on the tile page: "For Ron, with good luck especially in the movies. William H. Gass." Gass was likely referring to Hansen's novel, The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford which was made into a movie starring Brad Pitt. Hansen recently sold many of his books to a Palo Alto bookseller including this one.

Interior clean without markings; black cloth with author's name in gilt on the front cover, title and author's name in gilt on the spine. Jacket is clean and unclipped (priced at $60). Fine in a fine jacket. Inscribed on the title page by Deming: "Greetings to Paul. He was a Willing Worker on the Red Beads. 13 January 1993. He did his best. W. Edwards Deming." Rare signed /inscribed. Deming was the father of Total Quality Management. His quality control techniques were adopted by Japanese management, and he was extremely influential there. His high regard in the U. S. came later, especially after he consulted with Ford Motor Company in the early '80's.

Goodall has signed her name on the title page. Rare signed.
