Amsterdam: Willem Jansz, 1618. Book. Fair. Vellum. First Edition. 12mo - over 6¾ - 7¾" tall. [6], 92 pages, 1 plate (of 9). Lacks title page but the dedication bears the name of Willem Jansz [Blaeu] at the end, with the date of 25. Septemb. 1618. There is a facsimile of the original title page. Contemporary vellum binding, 19cm x 14.5cm, most of the spine is missing. The only plate which is present is the plate of Porto Desire showing the Dutch ships at anchor and the Jacht Hoorn on fire. The plate also shows seamen uncovering a grave where skeletons of men 10-11 feet long were found. Old name and date on front endpaper: "Adrian Boot Ingeniero de su Magsd 1623 = Mexico". Adrian Boot was a Dutch hydrographer who was appointed by King Philip III to investigate the drainage project of Mexico City and take charge of operations. Schouten's book was published four years before the account by Jakob Le Maire..

Apparently the southernmost printing of any part of the bible. Johann August Richter (1814-93), born at Luppa, Germany, arrived in Sydney in 1844. On 29 July 1843 Richter obtained permission from the Saxon authorities to travel to Australia as a 'Hilfsmissionar' or auxiliary missionary. Rotterdam: Andries van Hoogenhuysen, 1654. Book. Good. Vellum. Third edition, enlarged and revised. [24], 389, [19] pages, illustrated title page, 7 (of 8) illustartions. Lacking pages 337-360 including one illustration. This section of 24 pages appears to have never been bound into this copy. This book went through 4 editions between 1650 and 1655. In 1680 it was enlarged and published under the title "Oud en Nieuw Oost-Indien". All these editions are rare. The second part of Wonderen van't Oosten is based on "Oost-Indische Voyagien" published by Joost Hartgersz in 1648. There are summaries of Dutch voyages to the East Indies from 1595 to 1629. The last chapter gives an abbreviated version of 10 pages of the voyage and subsequent shipwreck of the Batavia in 1629 on the Houtman Abrolhos off the Western Australian coast. Original cloth lettered in gilt on cover, decorated in blind. First edition of this curious work. Eenoolooapik, an Inuk traveler and guide was born at Qimisuk, Cumberland Sound, c.1820; he died at Cumberland Sound 1847. He traveled to Britain in 1839 with whaling captain William Penny, who had hoped to establish a wintering base for whalers in Cumberland Sound. Penny's plan was rejected, but Eenoolooapik's friendliness and sense of humour endeared him to the British, who followed newspaper reports of his activities.
