This is the first hardcover edition, published in February 1972, a month before the UK hardbound version, according to Firsts Magazine (Nov. 2002, John D. MacDonald special issue). The true first was a massmarket paperback, published in 1970. First hardcover edition (first printing). Shelf wear to the bottom edges, a slight spine lean, and a bit of foxing to the page edges, but a solid copy in a very good dust jacket with light wear to the spine ends and a bit of tanning. The jacket is slightly smaller than the book, which is how the jacket for this book was manufactured. The jacket is priced at $5.50 and has the code 372 at the top of the front flap, as called for.

This copy is in very good condition showing only some minor wear and sunning to the board edges, moderate rubbing to the board edges, particularly the spine head, and some light spotting to the exterior text block; housed in a clean and bright very good dust jacket that shows some light rubbing to the edges and corners, some mild creasing with a couple of short closed tears to the edges, and a tiny dark stain to the front panel.
