About the author

Anne Dismukes Amerson, a native of Dahlonega, grew up on the campus of North Georgia College, where her father taught from 1933 to 1963. In 1956, Amerson graduated from NGC and married fellow NGC graduate Hinton S. "Amos" Amerson. After spending twqenty-three years traveling with her husband, who was in the U.S. Army, Amerson returned to Dahlonega in 1979. Amerson published four volumes of" I Remember Dahlonega" between 1990 and 1997, followed by "Dahlonega's Historic Public Square" (2002) and "The Best of I Remember Dahlonega" and "Dahlonega: A Brief History" (both in 2006). A popular public speaker on Dahlonega's history and an active member of the Lumpkin County Historical Society, Amerson has received numerous awards for historic preservation, including the Governor's Award in the Humanities.
