Uncle Wolfi's Secret Paperback -

The undeniable logic and ring of truth of his seemingly outrageous ideas struck Valerie Bracken when she first came across the medical work of Austrian consultant Dr Wolfgang Lutz. Working in London and Salzburg, Dr Lutz was then 82 years old and Valerie immediately got in touch with him. During the next 15 years, there was lively interchange between Valerie and Dr Lutz, and collaboration on several publications including, in 1989, an English summary of his main book Leben ohne Brot (Life without Bread) for his patients in Britain and the translation work for his American book with Christian B Allen Life without Bread: How a low-carbohydrate diet can save your life. In 2010, on the death of Dr Lutz, Valerie wrote his obituary for the Guardian. Uncle Wolfi's Secret was published in 2013 and revised in 2016. In this book, Valerie's critical mind and ironic sense of humour come to the fore and combine to facilitate understanding of the unique contribution to medicine made by Wolfgang Lutz. A biography written by Valerie My Life without Bread: Dr Lutz at 90 was published in 2014, the draft having been approved by Dr Lutz in 2003. Valerie, a writer and translator in her retirement, who worked formerly as a health professional in bodywork, remedial massage and yoga, has had a life-long interest in nutrition and its connection to health. Valerie lives in Scotland and has grown-up daughters. Her hobbies are herbalism and music. She is currently engaged in bringing out a translation of a work by another outstanding pioneer: doctor and bodywork specialist, Dr Bess Mensendieck.
