Signed. First Edition. History of North Texas State University. Originally Texas Normal College, now the University of North Texas. The book is inscribed to Joe Atkins, by the President of the University. The President, Norval Pohl, gives a lengthy inscription about Mr. Atkins significance to the school. Mr Atkins sued the College for admission in 1955 after they had denied him because of his race. The book discusses Mr. Atkins on pages 340 - 343. Atkins was the recipient of the Equity and Diversity Award. Later he was awarded an honorary Doctorate by the University. After Atkins won his court case against the school, 7 other Texas colleges desegregated. The book and jacket are in near fine condition with only very minor shelf wear.
