Nowadays the Society welcomes women as well as men, though in fact women were closely involved in the Society from the outset. It has a long and proud history in the life of this fenland town in Lincolnshire, especially in educational role, and is still providing opportunities for public engagement and academic research on a wide variety of subjects with the resources of its famous library and museum.
