Amilcar de Castro (Paraisópolis 1920 - Belo Horizonte 2002) was a celebrated sculptor and was one of the most emblematic figures of the post-war era. Born in Minas Gerais, artist Amilcar Augusto Pereira de Castro, was also a sculptor, engraver, draftsman, designer, set designer, teacher that demonstrated an avant-garde vision and genius by managing to capture the country's contradictions and transpose them into geometric shapes in the form of art using iron, a material characteristic of his works.
