About This Item

This is a large, custom bound collection of 23 SOTHEBY auction catalogs for the sale of rare antiquarian book collections/libraries (see below). The catalogs range in date from 1936 to 1938. The book contains numerous illustrations and plates (a couple of which are fold-out). The catalogs were for four separate auctions held in England, as follows:

* CATALOGUE OF THE WELL-KNOWN OF RARE AND VALUABLE BOOKS Illustrating the History of Printing, Formed by George W. Jones, Esq., Monkbarns, Northwood, Middlesex, and Sold by His Order: July 1, 1936; July 2, 1936.

* THE MENSING LIBRARY - Catalogue of the Very Valuable and Important Library formed by the late Mr. Ant. W.M. Mensing of Amsterdam, Sold by Order of His Executors: December 15, 1936; December 16, 1936; December 17, 1936; April 20, 1937; April 21, 1937; April 22, 1937.

* THE ALDENHAM LIBRARY - Catalogue of the Famous Library, The Property of the Rt. Honourable Lord Aldenham: March 22, 1937; March 23, 1937; March 24, 1937; May 3, 1937; May 4, 1937; May 5, 1937.

* THE CLUMBER LIBRARY - Catalogue of the Magnificent Library, The Property of the Lat Seventh Duke of Newcastle removed from Clumber, Worksop and Sold by Order of the Rt. Hon. the Earl of Lincoln: June 21, 1937; November 22, 1927; November 23, 1937; November 24, 1937; November 25, 1937; December 6, 1937; February 14, 1938; February 15, 1938; February 16, 1938.

Condition:
Light soiling to the spine. There are a few light scratches on the spine. Sharp cover corners. Tight binding with no cracks and no loose pages. Both covers are firmly attached. Nice interior - the text pages are clean with only pencil scribbles on both sides of the blank page preceding the "Clumber Library" section. Random pages within the "Clumber Library" section have pencil notes and prices in pencil. Light soiling/smudging to the back of the frontispiece. The catalog covers are not present. Overall the book is in Very Good condition.
