About This Item

From inside dust jacket:

At last, a facsimile reproduction of General Hood's memoirs, as originally published in 1880!

Experience the Siege of Atlanta, campaigns in Virginia, Gettysburg, Sharpsburg, Tennessee, Chickamauga and other battle sites as seen throught the eyes of General Hood.

Wartime communiques, battle maps and Hood's correspondence add to bringing a new understanding of the War Between the States to the reader.

John Bell Hood was born June 29, 1831. He graduated from West Point in 1853 and served in the U.S. Army until he resigned to join the Confederacy in 1861. He was appointed to command the Texas troops and rapidly demonstrated great heroism in combat, winning quick promotions. Gravely wounded at Gettysburg and Chickamauga, Hood went on to command in Georgia.

Hood retired in 1865 and died August 30, 1879, to be remembered as a great and patriotic son of the Confederacy.

358 pages including Appendix.

Condition: There is a small chip of the dust jacket missing on the lower back and a couple small tears on the dust jacket.
