This Holmes adventure made his first appearance in 1892; this is a Near Fine copy of the Copyright Edition from a year later and is the First Continental Edition [Grren & Gibson, p. 54]. Extremely. Two volumes bound together. Marbled paper-covered boards with a dark blue (almost black) cloth spine titled in gilt. Clean text, absolutely pristine. Page ends are speckled. Volume One (# 2896 of the "Collection of British Authors") has 272 pages. Volume Two [#2897] has 280 pages. Rubbed at the margins; else a Fine copy. An exceptional book for the Holmes completist.. First Thus. Hard Cover. Near Fine/No Jacket. 16mo - over 5¾" - 6¾" tall.

Synopsis

The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes is a collection of twelve stories by Arthur Conan Doyle, featuring his famous detective and illustrated by Sidney Paget. These are the first of the Sherlock Holmes short stories, originally published as single stories in the Strand Magazine from July 1891 to June 1892. The book was published in England on October 14 1892 by George Newnes Ltd and in a US Edition on October 15 by Harper. The initial combined print run was 14,500 copies.
