Gilt-stamped leather-covered boards, all edges gilt, satin pagemarker. "Special Message" by Drury for this edition. Illustrated by Walt Sptizmiller. "Notes from the Editors" booklet laid-in as issued. Includes the publisher's original mailing carton with label postmarked "Jul '77" and adressee's information markered out, the softcover slipcase with foil lable that contained the book with foarm insert and plastic book support insert. (Franklin ceased using these book supports and they are not commonly found with the books they were issued with.) Foil lable wrinkled and small abrasion on slipcase where it is attached; the mailing carton is toned; the book is a tight unread copy in Fine condition. A time capsule copy with all inserts included as issued. Uncommon as such. Drury's first novel. 1960 winner of the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction and the basis for Loring Mandel's adaptation for Broadway and the 1962 Otto preminger directed film with Franchot Tone, Lew Ayres, Henry Fonda, Walter Pidgeon and Charles Laughton.. Signed by Author. Limited Edition. Hardcovers. Fine/Not Issued. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.

Synopsis

Advise and Consent is a 1959 political novel written by Allen Drury which explores the reactions of those in and around the United States Senate to the controversial nomination of Robert Leffingwell, a former Communist Party member, to be United States Secretary of State. The novel was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 1960, and was followed by A Shade of Difference in 1962 and four subsequent sequels.
