London: Gollancz, 1936. First Edition. First impression. Octavo (20cm). Black cloth, titled in gilt on spine; dustjacket; 448pp. Faint foxing to text block edges, else Near Fine. In the original dustwrapper, priced 8/6 net on spine panel; slightly dusty and toned, with a ca. 1/2" closed tear on rear panel and a shade darkened on spine, still Very Good. Cary's third published book, based on his own service as a colonial administrator in Nigeria.
