About This Item
About this Item: Duell, Sloan and Pearce, New York, 1942. Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. 1st Edition. Near fine, unmarked copy of Erskine Caldwell's novel of guerrilla warfare in Russia. The author was best known for the novel Tobacco Road and God's Little Acre and wrote about poverty, racism and social problems in his native Southern United States. In his later life he gave lecture dealing with the lives and struggles of poor people throughout the country. He fell out of favor with many for his advocacy of eugenics and the sterilization of poor whites. Book is solid, clean and quite interesting. And for all the authors shortcomings, the book is a worthwhile study.
