About This Item

Monroe, Washington: Harmsen Publishing Company, Inc., 1977. Volume Two . Hard Back. Fine/Very Good. 9 1/2" x 12. Hilker, F. C. - Photographer. 256 Pages. Four inked lines of gift inscription signed by the author and dated 1984. Short biographies of western art, with 125 color plates of representative paintings and sculpture. Hardcover with dust jacket that shows light wear around the edges. Small store label on the front endpaper. Interior text and illustration pages on glossy paper are bright, tight, and white. Richard Lamm, Governor of Colorado, had this to say. Publication of this second volume of western paintings from the collection of Bill and Dorothy Harmsen is a milestone. Because they recognized early that the significance of Western painting was being ignored, particularly in Colorado, the Harmsens began collecting with a mission. As this volume reveals, their efforts were foresightful because we have come to understand the value of western painting. We now know that such paintings reveal for us an authentic representation of the early West. Through them, we better understand our heritage.
