Ownership Signature Of J. N. Hart, With Book Putlie Pasted To Front Endpapers And Scattered Marginalia. Henry Bayard Phillips , Often Referred To As H. B. Phillips, (1881 -1973 ) Was An American Mathematician . Henry Phillips Studied At Erskine College With A Bachelor's Degree In 1900 And Received His Doctorate From Johns Hopkins University In 1905 Under Frank Morley With The Dissertation Some Invariants And Covariants Of Ternary Collineations . From 1905 To 1907 He Was An Instructor At The University Of Cincinnati And Then An Instructor At The Massachusetts Institute Of Technology , Where He Soon Became A Professor. There He Was Head Of The Mathematics Faculty From 1934 To 1947 And Retired In 1947. He Was Known For Various Textbooks And Studied Vector Analysis Early On With Cle Moore . With Norbert Wiener He Worked On The Numerical Solution Of Partial Differential Equations On Grids. His Book On Analytic Geometry Was Also Translated Into Spanish.
